In his powerful and moving memoir, Down to Dirt, Dirt and Stars, Michael Nicoll Yahgulanaas shares the story of his journey from a troubled childhood to a life of purpose and meaning. Yahgulanaas writes with honesty and courage about his experiences of abuse, addiction, and homelessness, and offers a message of hope and healing for others who have faced similar challenges.

Yahgulanaas was born into a poor family in the remote village of Kitlope, British Columbia. His father was an alcoholic who often abused him and his siblings. His mother was also an alcoholic, and she died when Yahgulanaas was just 10 years old. After his mother's death, Yahgulanaas and his siblings were sent to live with their grandparents. However, their grandparents were also alcoholics, and they continued to abuse Yahgulanaas.

At the age of 14, Yahgulanaas ran away from home and began living on the streets of Vancouver. He quickly fell into a life of addiction and crime. He spent the next several years living on the streets, begging for money and ng odd jobs to survive. He was also arrested several times for petty crimes.

In 1993, Yahgulanaas was arrested for the final time. He was sentenced to five years in prison. While in prison, Yahgulanaas began to turn his life around. He started to write poetry and short stories, and he also began to learn about his Indigenous culture. After he was released from prison, Yahgulanaas continued to write and to work on his recovery. He also became a public speaker, sharing his story with others in the hopes of inspiring them to overcome their own challenges.

Down to Dirt, Dirt and Stars is a powerful and inspiring memoir that tells the story of one man's journey from despair to hope. Yahgulanaas writes with honesty and courage about his experiences of abuse, addiction, and homelessness, and he offers a message of hope and healing for others who have faced similar challenges. This is a book that will stay with you long after you finish it.
